【女郎〔じょろう〕】「これよ——楓〔かえで〕屋へ行って、その二朱〔にしゅ〕と百〔ひゃく〕の煙草箱〔たばこばこ〕を紙〔かみ〕で包〔つつ〕んで、水引〔みずひき〕で結〔いわ〕えてもらってきや。又、太神楽〔だいかぐら〕を見ていめぇよ。」

**[Courtesan / 女郎]** "Sawabe! Sawabe!"
**[Kaburo / かぶろ]** "Coming, coming!"
**[Courtesan / 女郎]** "Listen — go to the Kaedeya [Maple House] and have that two-shu coin and the tobacco box wrapped up in paper and tied with a mizuhiki cord, and bring it back. And don't you go dawdling to watch the Daikagura performers on the way."

"Oh my — today the situation at home changed, and I was able to slip away and come straight back. Oh, what a relief — it was painful."

**[Yū / 夕]** "Until just now I'd been hiding in the fish tank [ikeshu] at Mito-jiri."
**[Kawa / 川]** *(lowering her voice)*
"Listen — when evening comes, there'll be more people about, so you should go into the main room wearing a face like you've suddenly been struck by a stomach cramp [shaku], and go to bed."
**[Yū / 夕]** "Do you think that would work all right?"
