思いがけなく、隣の間〔ま〕の長持〔ながもち〕の中からも——
「ヤアヤア！ 夕霧との心底〔しんてい〕、見えたぞ！」
と、『仮名手本忠臣蔵〔かなでほんちゅうしんぐら〕』十段目の大星〔おおぼし〕もどきに声をかけながら、ふたを押し開けて、ぬっと出てきた一人の男。
若い者〔わかいもの〕たちは聞きうて〔聞くなり〕、その男をつかんでねじり上げ、もう一人は力に任せて押したり押したり、こちらも蹴り、あちらも蹴り——
蹴る蹴る蹴る、と散々に散らかして立ったる様〔さま〕は、いかにも気持ちよく見えにけり。
やり手は、それと見るよりも、
「ヤア！ お前さんは浮里〔うきさと〕さんのお客人〔きゃくじん〕！ いつの間にどうして……まあ、その中〔なか〕に……」
と言うにもかまわず、この男〔おとこ〕は伊左衛門の前〔まえ〕に手をついて、いまだ——（続く）
