病にて身を亡（ほろほ）す時は。家に何ほど貨財（たから）が有て
も。何の益（やく）に立たず。故に身の貨財より大切なる
事はみな人知らぬものなし。其知つて居なから。是
をおもはぬは。さりとは性根なしといふもの也。
去れば病の劇（はげ）しき時は。身の苦（くる）しみにたへかね。
此病さへ愈るならば。何ほど財は費（ついや）すともかま
わぬと。身を財宝より大事にするやうなれ共。

世の諺（ことはざ）に。咽（のんど）過れば熱（あつ）さ忘るゝといふもこの
事也。実に病を治して。身を全（まつた）ふせんと思はゞ。
費をいとわず上手の医者を頼み。能ひ薬を
用ゆべし。財をおしんで庸医（やふい）を頼。麁（やす）薬を
用べからず。古人も亦近来病家／謝礼（しやれい）を薄（うす）く
する故。医者もつゐへをいとひ。麁薬を用ひて

病気で身を滅ぼす時は、家にどれほど財産があっても、
何の役にも立たない。故に身が財産より大切である
ことは皆が知らないものはない。その知っていながら、これ
を思わないのは、さすがに根性がないというものである。
それゆえ病気が激しい時は、身の苦しみに耐えかね、
この病気さえ治るならば、どれほど財産を費やしても構わ
ないと、身を財宝より大事にするようであるが、

病気が治って見れば、その時とは大いに相違するのである。
世の諺に、「喉過ぎれば熱さ忘るる」というのもこの
ことである。実に病気を治して、身を全うしようと思うならば、
費用をいとわず上手の医者を頼み、良い薬を
用いるべきである。財産を惜しんで庸医を頼み、粗末な薬を
用いてはならない。古人も言うように、近頃病家の謝礼を薄く
する故に、医者も費用をいとい、粗末な薬を用いて

When one destroys their body through illness, no matter how much wealth one has at home,
it is of no benefit. Therefore, there is no one who does not know that
the body is more precious than wealth. Yet knowing this while
not thinking about it shows a truly spineless character.
Therefore, when illness is severe, unable to bear the body's suffering,
one thinks that as long as this illness is cured, no matter how much wealth is spent, it doesn't
matter, and seems to value the body more than treasure, but

when the illness is cured, it differs greatly from that time.
The common proverb "once past the throat, the heat is forgotten" also refers to this
matter. If one truly wishes to cure illness and preserve the body,
one should not begrudge the expense and rely on skilled doctors, using good medicine.
One should not be stingy with money, relying on quack doctors and using inferior medicine.
As the ancients also said, because recently patients make
meager payments, doctors also avoid expenses and use inferior medicine.
