諸病愈るへきやうなし。能く〳〵おもふべし。
扨又病家。医者を頼費をいとふて。買薬など
にて済（す）ますは。甚つまらぬ事也。かの一薬にて諸
病を愈すものと同じ。ゑては仕損（しそん）する事多し。
古人も病て薬せざるは。中医を得といへり。是は
症に合はぬ薬を呑まんより。呑まぬ方がかへつて。
中ぐらひの医者の。療治ほどに向ふといふ事也。

むべし。高直にさへ有れば。悪き事なき也。中に
おゐて人参の事。素人（しろうと）にいらぬ事なれども。
心得のため。ゑらび易（やす）き一￣ツ法をしめす也。第一に
陳縮参（ちんしゆくじん）。是は所々の薬園（やくゑん）に有り。根の形（なり）悪き
ものを集め植（うへ）て。実（み）を取る為（ため）の種（たね）の根也。

諸病が治るはずがない。よくよく考えるべきである。
さてまた病家が、医者を頼むのを嫌って費用を惜しみ、売薬などで
済ませるのは、甚だつまらないことである。あの一つの薬で諸々の
病気を治すという者と同じである。得てして失敗することが多い。
古人も「病気になって薬を服用しないのは、中程度の医者にかかるのと同じ」と言った。これは
症状に合わない薬を飲むより、飲まない方がかえって、
中程度の医者の治療ほどの効果があるということである。

それゆえ、売薬や下手な医者の薬を飲むより、飲ま
ない方がましである。さて薬物は相当高価なものを求める
べきである。高価でさえあれば、悪いことはない。中でも
人参のことは、素人には必要ないことであるが、
心得のため、選びやすい一つの方法を示そう。第一に
陳縮参がある。これは所々の薬園にあり、根の形の悪い
ものを集めて植え、実を取るための種用の根である。

it is impossible to cure various diseases. One should think this through carefully.
Moreover, when patients dislike relying on doctors and begrudge the expense, trying to manage with patent medicines and such
is extremely foolish. It is the same as those who claim to cure all
diseases with a single medicine. More often than not, this leads to failure.
The ancients also said, "Being ill and not taking medicine is equivalent to having a mediocre doctor." This means
that rather than taking medicine that doesn't suit one's symptoms, not taking any is actually
as effective as treatment by a mediocre doctor.

Therefore, it is better not to take medicine at all rather than taking patent medicines or medicines from incompetent doctors.
Now, one should seek medicinal substances that are considerably expensive.
As long as they are expensive, there is nothing wrong with them. Among these,
regarding ginseng - though this is unnecessary knowledge for laypeople -
I will show an easy method of selection for general understanding. First,
there is aged stunted ginseng. This is found in various medicinal gardens, where roots of poor shape
are collected and planted to harvest seeds - these are the seed roots.
