人参は凝気（ぎやうき）【「こり」左ルビ】の品なれば。兎角（とかく）実するを尊とふ
事也。十二￣ケ年以上を歴（へ）されば功なし。本艸に記
せる大功は。至つて年久しき品の事也。今の人参
をいふにあらず。此品はこやし無ふして実し。
屈曲（くつきよく）【「まがりくねり」左ルビ】にて盛（さかん）也。廿年をも卅年をも歴（へ）たる
と有りて。本艸の説に叶たるは只此一品なり。
此品甚効有り。中〳〵今時の朝鮮人参も

及ばぬ也。第二に朝鮮／鉛（なまり）入￣リ人参。是は鉛多く
手入無きを択（ゑらび）用べし。鉛無くさきめ多￣キは。色々
のまぜ物多くして薬用にたへす。財をおしむ
心より鉛をきらひ。却つて贋（にせ）物を㐂（よろこ）ぶ事。
笑止（せうし）千万也。第三／箒手（はうきで）引はなし人参。此品
少￣シ次なれ共朝鮮に違なし。鉛もなく目利も
心安ければ。素人には第二の名品ともいふべし。

人参は凝気（「こり」という意味）の品であるから、とにかく充実したものを尊ぶ
ことである。十二年以上を経過すれば効果がない。本草書に記
されている大きな効果は、極めて年数を経た品についてのことである。今の人参
のことを言うのではない。この品は肥やしなしで充実し、
曲がりくねって盛んに育つ。二十年も三十年も経た
ものがあって、本草書の説明に適うのはただこの一品のみである。
この品は甚だ効果があり、なかなか今時の朝鮮人参も

及ばないのである。第二に朝鮮の鉛入り人参。これは鉛が多く
手入れのないものを選んで用いるべきである。鉛がなく割れ目の多いものは、色々な
混ぜ物が多くて薬用に耐えない。財産を惜しむ
心から鉛を嫌い、かえって偽物を喜ぶことは、
笑止千万である。第三に箒手引きはなし人参。この品は
少し劣るけれども朝鮮産に違いない。鉛もなく目利きも
心安いので、素人には第二の名品とも言うべきである。

Ginseng is a substance of concentrated qi ("condensation"), so one should by all means value those that are substantial.
If more than twelve years have passed, it loses its efficacy. The great effects recorded
in pharmaceutical texts refer to varieties that are extremely old. They do not refer to today's ginseng.
This variety becomes substantial without fertilizer and
grows vigorously in twisted, contorted shapes. There are some that have lasted twenty or even thirty years,
and only this one variety conforms to the explanations in pharmaceutical texts.
This variety is extremely effective, and even today's Korean ginseng cannot

match it. Second is Korean ginseng with lead content. For this, one should select and use those with much lead and
no special treatment. Those without lead and with many cracks contain various
adulterants and cannot withstand medicinal use. To begrudge expense
and dislike lead, yet conversely rejoice in counterfeit goods, is
utterly ridiculous. Third is "broom-handled stemless" ginseng. Though this variety is
slightly inferior, it is undoubtedly Korean. Since it has no lead and evaluation is
reassuring, it could be called a second-class premium variety for laypeople.
