The Chuzan Seikan states that in ancient times, before knowledge of farming, Amamiku first distributed and planted millet and beans at Kudakashima (Kudaka), Chinen, Okawa, Tamaki, and various other places. The spring rice ripened in summer, and to this day, the deities are worshipped four times in spring and summer at these locations - in the second month at Kudaka, and in the fourth month at Chinen and Tamaki. This is the great festival of returning to origins and beginnings.  [Requesting Rain] Every year in the tenth month, after planting, officials first fast for three days, then all proceed to the Dragon King Hall and Tianzun Temple to pray. They also request that the Dragon King's divine image be placed on a dragon boat and taken to Tomishiro to set up a rain altar for prayers. When drought is severe, the king personally goes to the Sakiyama rain altar to pray in person, or goes to Amashiro (located within Tamaki village) to pray in person.
