座（ザ）シテ云家ハ勢州（セイシウ）ヨリ出タル雲水（ウンスイ）ノ僧ナリ
足（ソコ）下ニハ幼年（ヨウネン）ヨリ玉石ヲ愛玩（アイクワン）シテ近ス和（ワ）
現代語訳
一尺二寸。皆仏の形である。故に仏石という。また奥州出羽の国境に羅漢石がある。これも自然に僧の形になっており、一人のものや双体のものがある。洛西嵯峨の臨川寺の桂洲和尚が私に観音石を恵んでくださった。まことに彫刻したかのようであるが、決して人工ではなく天然の産物である。その高さは五寸三分。観音の立像である。一偈を添えて贈ってくださった。また私がこの書を執筆している日に、偶然一人の老僧が来て机のそばに座り、「私は勢州から出た雲水の僧です。あなたは幼年の頃から玉石を愛玩して親しまれて」と言った。

One shaku and two sun. All have the form of Buddha. Therefore they are called Buddha stones. Also, at the border between Ōshū and Dewa provinces, there are Arhat stones. These too naturally take the form of monks, some single figures, some in pairs. The priest Keishū of Rinsen Temple in Saga, western Kyoto, kindly bestowed upon me a Kannon stone. Though it truly appears as if carved by hand, it is certainly a natural product. Its height is five sun and three bu. It is a standing image of Kannon. He presented it with an accompanying verse. Also, on the day I was drafting this book, by chance an old monk came and sat beside my desk, saying "I am a wandering monk from Seishū province. You have loved and been familiar with precious stones since your youth."
