収まることもあり、天気が快晴におよんで御加勢も引き退き、国中他領の御城下、津軽候の御家中その外、上山辺の町人百姓までもあの浜に出て矢の根を拾い求めることである。砂中、海中には甚だ多い。この矢の根石を所持する時は悪魔が近寄らず、水に移していただけば瘧を落とし、鉄砲の礫除け、矢除け等、神のごとしと、小児の守り袋に収め、大人は刀や脇差の目貫に用い、この辺りにて甚だ大切にすることである。この浜一里余りに広さ三里余りの場所にて、草木も小石もなく、米の粉のごとく

Sometimes it subsides, and when the weather becomes clear and fine, the reinforcements withdraw. From throughout the domain and other territories, from the castle town, Lord Tsugaru's retainers and others, and even townspeople and farmers from the upper mountain areas come out to that beach to gather and seek arrowheads. There are very many in the sand and in the sea. When one possesses these arrowhead stones, evil spirits do not approach, and if taken with water, they cure malaria. They are regarded as godlike for protection against bullets, stones, and arrows. Children keep them in protective pouches, and adults use them as menuki ornaments for swords and short swords, treating them as extremely precious things in this region. This beach, extending over one ri and more than three ri in width, is a place where there are no plants or small stones, [the sand being fine] like rice flour.
