現代語訳
という人と数日にわたって談話に及んだ。この人が言うには、十年ほど前、江指村の隣の江が熊石という所へ雷が落ちた跡に、まさしくこの物が一つあった。近くの里の子供や村人たちは「雷が大鼓の撥を残していった」と言った。この噂が次第に遠近に聞こえて、三、四里四方が大いに騒動となった。これによって雷堂という小さな祠を造って納めた。その翌年、近辺の山中にて同じ物の半分から折れたものを拾ってきた人がおり、同じく雷堂へ納めようという話である。そうであるならば、上古に使用された物であるものと見做した。図は左の通りである。

He conversed with this person for several days. According to this man, about ten years ago, at a place called Kumaishi in a bay adjacent to Esashi village, there was exactly one of these objects at the spot where lightning had struck. The local children and villagers said that "the thunder god had left behind a drumstick for a large drum." This rumor gradually spread far and wide, causing great commotion within a radius of three to four ri. Because of this, they built a small shrine called Raiden (Thunder Hall) and enshrined the object there. The following year, someone found a similar object broken in half in the nearby mountains and brought it back, with the story that it too would be enshrined in the Thunder Hall. If this is the case, it appears to be an object used in ancient times. The illustration is as shown on the left.
