琉球（りうきう）の名（な）載籍（さいせき）に見えし
琉球はもとより我邦（わがくに）の属島（ぞくたう）なりといへども、かけ
はなれたる島国（しまぐに）にて、その国（くに）の往来（わうらい）【左注「ゆきゝ」】することはやく
絶（た）えぬれば、たま〳〵載籍（さいせき）【左注「しよもつ」】に見ゆるもの、僅（わづか）に一（いち）二（に）条（でう）

琉球の名が載籍に見えた件について
琉球はもともと我が国の属島であるとはいえ、かけ離れた島国であって、その国との往来が早くから絶えてしまったので、たまたま書物に見えるものも、わずかに一、二条にすぎず、その詳細なことはかつて考察することができない。弘法大師の性霊集に、「颽風朝に扇ぎ、肝を耽羅の狼心に摧き、北気夕べに発し、膽を留求の虎性に失ふ」《これは入唐大使賀能のために代作されて、福州観察使に与える書の文である》と見える。これは延暦二十三年のことである。今昔物語では

Regarding the appearance of the name "Ryukyu" in historical records
Although Ryukyu has been a tributary island of our country from the beginning, it is a distant island nation, and since communication with that country ceased early on, what occasionally appears in historical records amounts to merely one or two entries, and detailed information has never been available for examination. In Kōbō Daishi's Shōryōshū, it states: "The morning wind fans and crushes the liver with the wolf-heart of Tamna; the northern air arises in the evening and loses courage to the tiger-nature of Riukiu." 《This was written on behalf of the Tang envoy Yoshino and given to the Fuzhou Regional Commander as a letter》 This refers to events in Enryaku 23 (804).
