田久老（たひさおい）が日本紀（にほんき）歌廼解等（うたのかいとう）に云（いふ）、海神（かいしん）の宮（みや）を今（いま）の琉
球国なりといひて、その証（しよう）などをとかくいへるは、古（こ）

現代語訳
田久老の『日本紀歌廼解』等で述べているのは、「海神の宮を今の琉球国である」と言って、その証拠などをあれこれ述べているが、これは古い伝承を信じないで、みだりに述べた個人的な勝手な意見である、と言っているのは、まことに適切な論といえるだろう。古来より、事柄が全く似ているからといって、こじつけることが非常に多く、すべて皆推測に基づいた妄説であるから信じるべきではない。
うるまの島は琉球ではないという弁明
『笈埃随筆』、『夏山雑談』等で、うるまの国とは琉球である、と述べている。これはもともと『狭衣』という冊子に「うるまの島」ということがあるのを、紹巴の『下紐』という注釈で「琉球なり」と述べているによると思われるが、誤りである。うるまは新羅《割書：今の朝鮮である》の属島であって、琉球ではなく、自ずから別である。その証拠は、大納言公任集に「新羅のうるまの島人が来て、ここの人の言うことも聞き分からないと聞かせなさって、返事を申し上げなかった人に」と詞書があって、
「おぼつかな うるまの島の人なれや わが恨むるを知らずがほなる」《割書：千載集では、四句目を「わがことのはを」に作る》

英語訳
What Tahisa-oi states in his "Nihon-ki Uta no Kai" and other works is that "the Sea God's Palace is the present-day Ryukyu Kingdom," presenting various pieces of evidence for this claim. However, this represents private speculation made without faith in ancient traditions, and can truly be called a most appropriate argument. Since ancient times, there has been much forced interpretation based merely on superficial similarities between events, and all such theories, being based on speculation, should not be trusted as they are unfounded assertions.
Argument that Uruma Island is not Ryukyu
In "Kyūai Zuihitsu," "Kazan Zatsudan," and other works, it is stated that "the country of Uruma is Ryukyu." This appears to be based on the fact that there is mention of "Uruma Island" in a booklet called "Sagoromo," which is annotated in Shōha's commentary "Shitahimo" as "being Ryukyu," but this is an error. Uruma is a tributary island of Silla 《marginal note: present-day Korea》 and is not Ryukyu; they are naturally separate. The evidence for this is found in the "Collection of Major Counselor Kintō," which has the preface: "A person from Uruma Island of Silla came and, being told that they could not understand what the people here were saying, did not respond," followed by the poem:
"How uncertain—are you a person from Uruma Island, acting as if you know not my resentment?" 《marginal note: In the Senzai-shū, the fourth line reads "waga kotonoha wo"》
