此年八月讃岐国を賜てうつる十四年の夏薩摩の
島津関白の仰にしたかはす豊後の大友ほろほさん
とすと聞えしかは秀久御使を蒙り長曾我部土佐守
元親と共に四国の軍勢を引率して豊後の府にをし
渡る秀久まつ島津か許に使たてゝかさねて関白の
仰を伝へけるに島津その使をからめとりて返答にも及
はす肥後の国を豊後の国に乱れ入大友か城を攻落し
戸次利光鶴か城の戦既に難義に及ふよしを聞て事
すてに急也殿下の仰まつまてもあらすとて秀久
元親大友か軍勢をしたかへ戸次の城のうしろ巻す

十二月十二日の朝戸次川を打わたつて島津か勢と
戦ひみかた散々にうちなされ元親か嫡子信親討死す

秀吉かむかはんをまてとこそいひつれそれも四国の

をはしはらくゆるしぬ仙石か所帯没収せよとて讃岐国
をうはひて尾藤甚右衛門尉に給て筑紫の先陣を承る
明れは十五年の春殿下みつから筑紫の地に御発向あり

この年八月、讃岐国を賜って移った。天正十四年の夏、薩摩の島津が関白の命に従わず、豊後の大友を滅ぼそうとしていると聞こえたので、秀久は御使を命じられ、長宗我部土佐守元親と共に四国の軍勢を率いて豊後の国府に押し渡った。秀久はまず島津のもとに使者を立てて、重ねて関白の命を伝えたところ、島津はその使者を捕らえて返答にも及ばず、肥後国から豊後国に乱入し、大友の城を攻め落とし、戸次利光の鶴賀城の戦いが既に難儀に及んでいるという知らせを聞いて、事態は既に急を要する、殿下の命を待つまでもないとして、秀久は元親と大友の軍勢を従えて戸次の城の後巻きをした。

十二月十二日の朝、戸次川を渡って島津の勢と戦ったが、味方は散々に打ち負かされ、元親の嫡子信親が討死した。《割書：諱は弥三郎》関白はこの事を聞いて「容易ならぬことだ。先陣の者どもはみだりに合戦すべきではない。どのようにも敵を牽制して、秀吉が向かうのを待てと言ったはずだ。それも四国の者どもが軽率な軍をして、手合わせの合戦に打ち負けたことの不覚さよ。信親が討死した上は、父元親の罪は暫く許すが、仙石の所領は没収せよ」として、讃岐国を奪い取って尾藤甚右衛門尉に与え、筑紫の先陣を命じた。明けて十五年の春、殿下自ら筑紫の地に御出陣された。

In the eighth month of this year, he was granted Sanuki Province and moved there. In the summer of Tenshō 14, it was reported that Shimazu of Satsuma was not obeying the Kanpaku's orders and was trying to destroy the Ōtomo of Bungo. Hidehisa was appointed as an envoy and, together with Chōsokabe Tosa-no-kami Motochika, led the forces of Shikoku and crossed over to Bungo Province. Hidehisa first sent an envoy to Shimazu to relay the Kanpaku's orders once again, but Shimazu captured the envoy and gave no reply. Instead, he invaded from Higo Province into Bungo Province, attacked and captured Ōtomo's castle. Hearing that Hetsugi Toshimitsu's battle at Tsuruga Castle was already in dire straits, and that the situation was urgent and could not wait for the lord's orders, Hidehisa, together with Motochika, led Ōtomo's forces to relieve Hetsugi Castle.

He seized Sanuki Province and granted it to Bitō Jinzaemon-no-jō, appointing him to the vanguard in Tsukushi.
