第一篇 爰に悪人善に勧まざるかこつけをいひ崩
して専善道に勧むべき理りを記す事
第一 悪を退け善に勧むべき事をさし

○去ば上巻の教を以て大方人の心に善の勤めをなすべき道理を弁ふ
べしといへども猶も悪人の業障深きが故に邪をのみ事とし善の道を

さて、上巻の教えによって、大方の人の心に善の務めをなすべき道理を理解すべきであるけれども、なお悪人は業障が深いために、邪なことのみを事とし、善の道を避けて無理を道理とする者である。これを指して*ソロモンが「知音と仲を違えようとする人は常にその口実を尋ね求める」（箴言18章）と言ったのと同じく、悪人は神を遠ざけ申し上げるために、それぞれの心に口実を求めないということがない。人によっては善の務めを後回しにし、最期まで延ばそうと思う者もある。ある人は善の道は味わいがなく難しいとのみ心得て、それに慣れ親しんで先へ進むことがない。また、ある人は神の広大な御慈悲に頼みをかけ、ひたすら頼もしく思いさえすれば

Chapter One: Answers to those who postpone the matter of
rejecting evil and turning toward good
Now, through the teachings of the first volume, most people should understand the reasoning for undertaking virtuous practices in their hearts. However, because evil people have deep karmic obstacles, they concern themselves only with wickedness, avoid the path of virtue, and make unreasonableness into reasonableness. Pointing to this, *Solomon said, "He who seeks to break with a friend constantly seeks pretexts for doing so" (Proverbs 18), and likewise, evil people never fail to seek pretexts in their respective hearts in order to distance themselves from God. Some people think to postpone virtuous practices and delay them until their final moment. Some people understand the path of virtue as only tasteless and difficult, become accustomed to this view, and make no progress.
