甚強く罪の重荷を持添へ分別の眼盲みおんたあでの力は尽果悪の望みは
強くなり其を防ぐ自由の力は弱くなるがゆへに此等の古き僻悪に悪を
重ねて後輒く改めんとおもふは何事ぞ今水のあさきをさへ渡りかぬるに
をひては水かさ勝り大水となりて後は如何にして渡るべきや若木の根を
さへ引かぬるにをひては大木の根をば如何にとかせん今は百僻を改むるさへ
大儀とおもふにをひては千々万々の悪の紲群り集まるべき時は如何ん今は
悪き僻の幼き時なり後には悪の老究りて大敵となるべし今さへ持あげ
かぬる重荷を付添〳〵したらん後の重荷をば何とか担げあぐべきや
元祖を忖りしごとく其子孫なる我等をも武略を以て深き苦しみの
穴に落さんとする狗兄の所行といふべきや大病愈やすく重罪赦され
安しといふ事をば誰か誠と信ずべきや汝ゑけれじやすちこの御詞を
聞ずや年経たる病はなほり難く新き病はなほり安しとゑけれじや

然ば此等の迷ひに付て或時あんじよ天降り山居の僧をさそひ給ひて
山深く分入一人の樵夫を見せ給ふに多く薪をこり束ね脊負んと
するに更に持得ざれば彼が心に思へり尚たきゞをとり添ば持事輒すか
らんとさて猶たきゞを取そへ担せんとすれ共更に叶はず彼僧是を恠み

とても強く罪の重荷を背負い、分別の目は盲目となり、意志の力は尽き果て、悪への欲望は強くなり、それを防ぐ自由意志の力は弱くなるのだから、これらの古い悪い癖に悪を重ねた後で、簡単に改めようと思うのは何事であろうか。今、浅い水でさえ渡ることができないのに、水かさが増して大水となった後は、どのようにして渡ることができようか。若木の根でさえ引き抜けないのに、大木の根をどのようにして抜くことができようか。今は百の悪癖を改めることでさえ大変だと思うのに、千々万々の悪の束縛が群がり集まる時には、どうするというのか。今は悪い癖がまだ幼い時である。後には悪が成熟して大敵となるであろう。今でさえ持ち上げることのできない重荷に、さらに荷物を付け加えた後の重荷を、どのようにして担ぎ上げることができようか。
アダムを欺いたように、その子孫である我々をも策略によって深い苦しみの穴に落とそうとする悪魔の所業というべきであろうか。重い病気が治りやすく、重罪が赦されやすいということを、誰が真実と信じるであろうか。あなたは『エクレジアスティコ』（集会の書）の御言葉を聞いていないのか。年を経た病気は治りにくく、新しい病気は治りやすいと『エクレジアスティコ』十二章に見えている。

The burden of sin becomes very heavy, the eyes of discernment become blind, the power of the will is exhausted, evil desires grow stronger, and the power of free will to prevent them becomes weaker.
