誰か我等を Xﾟの御大切より遠ざからする事叶ふべきやた但飢渇貧苦災
釼難の辛苦を以ても何ぞさくる事叶はんや誠に諸のあんじよの力も
死する難儀も天も地もいんへるのも其外諸の御作の物の力にても全く
ds の御大切をさくる事叶ふべからずと宣ふ也見と＊さんろれんそは焙籠の
上に乗給ひて涼しき火焔かなと宣ふ事は何事ぞ是御大切の焔内に
深く燃給ふか故也＊きりぞごの辞のごとく ds を思ひ奉る真実の大切は
何をも難しとせず苦しみをも苦しとせず重きをも重しとせず如何
なる死するも釼難も達したる大切にはかつ事なし又大切はかねよき
鎧なれば衝ても射ても徹る事あるべからず危きをも物ともせず
死するをも喫る者也惣て大切は万事に勝事明也
如此達したる大切は競ひ来る辛労を輙く凌ぐのみならず却てわが思ふ
人に対して尚うけ度と望む事あり故に善に達し給ふ人々は何れも
まるちりよの望みに燃立御血を流し給ふ御方に対して身の血を
流さんと深く望み給ふといへども猶其望み叶はざればわれとわが身の
太刀取となりて飢渇寒熱辛労等の釼をもて其身を接して少の気

使徒聖パウロ、ローマ書第八章に「Quis ergo nos separabit à charitate Christi? tribulatio? an angustia? an fames? an nuditas? an periculum? an persecutio? an gladius?」（誰が我等をキリストの愛から引き離すことができようか。苦難か、困窮か、飢えか、裸か、危険か、迫害か、剣か）
誰が我等をキリストの御愛より遠ざけることが叶うであろうか。ただ飢え渇き、貧苦災難、剣難の辛苦をもってしても、何で引き裂くことができようか。誠に諸々の天使の力も、死の苦難も、天も地も地獄も、その外諸々の神の御創造物の力をもってしても、全く神の御愛を引き裂くことは叶うべからずと宣う也。見よ、聖ローレンソは焼き網の上に乗り給いて「涼しき火炎かな」と宣うことは何事ぞ。これ御愛の炎の内に深く燃え給うが故也。クリソゴノスの言葉の如く、神を思い奉る真実の愛は何をも難しとせず、苦しみをも苦しとせず、重きをも重しとせず。如何なる死も剣難も、達したる愛には勝つ事なし。また愛は堅き良き鎧なれば、衝いても射ても貫くことあるべからず。危きをも物ともせず、死をも呑む者也。総じて愛は万事に勝ること明らか也。
かくの如く達したる愛は競い来る辛労を容易く凌ぐのみならず、却って我が思う人に対して尚受けたしと望むことあり。故に善に達し給う人々は何れも殉教の望みに燃え立ち、御血を流し給う御方に対して身の血を流さんと深く望み給うといえども、猶その望み叶わざれば我と我が身の太刀取となりて、飢え渇き寒熱辛労等の剣をもってその身を責めて少しの気晴らしとするのである。
英語訳
The Apostle Saint Paul in Romans Chapter 8: "Quis ergo nos separabit à charitate Christi? tribulatio? an angustia? an fames? an nuditas? an periculum? an persecutio? an gladius?" (Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or persecution, or sword?)
Who could separate us from Christ's great love? Even with the hardships of hunger, thirst, poverty, disasters, and sword troubles, what could tear us away? Truly, even the power of all angels, the sufferings of death, heaven, earth, hell, and all the power of God's other creatures cannot tear apart God's great love, he declares. Behold, when Saint Lawrence was placed upon the gridiron, he said "What cool flames these are!" What does this mean? It is because he burned deeply within the flames of divine love. As in the words of Chrysogonus, true love that thinks of God considers nothing difficult, does not find suffering painful, does not find heavy things burdensome. No matter what death or sword troubles may come, they cannot overcome perfected love. Moreover, love is like strong, good armor - no matter how one strikes or shoots, it cannot be pierced. It treats danger as nothing and even swallows death. In general, it is clear that love conquers all things.
Such perfected love not only easily overcomes competing hardships, but rather desires to receive even more for the sake of the one it loves. Therefore, all people who have attained goodness burn with the desire for martyrdom, and though they deeply wish to shed their blood for the One who shed His blood, when this wish cannot be fulfilled, they become the sword-bearers against their own bodies, using the swords of hunger, thirst, cold, heat, and hardship to torment their bodies for a little relief.
