義英か男をよつきとし給ひて所領半を減せらる《割書：十五｜万石》

左中将兼右京大夫源義宣は鎮守府将軍頼義の
三男新羅三郎茂光の孫佐竹の冠者昌義十八代の
後胤也昌義 母方につきて常陸国にくたり久慈の
郡佐竹の地を領しぬれは佐竹とは名乗けり昌義か
孫佐竹別当 秀義故大将頼朝のためにうたるへかりし
を希有にしてまぬかる頼朝奥の泰衡を討んと
す下野国宇津宮に至り給ふ時 秀義軍兵をひきゐ
て参り佐竹か旗皆 混白（ヒタシロ）なりけれは御所の御旗にわか
たれんかために月をかける扇給りて旗の上につけて

佐竹
左中将兼右京大夫源義宣は、鎮守府将軍頼義の三男新羅三郎茂光の孫である佐竹の冠者昌義の十八代の後胤である。昌義は母方の縁によって常陸国に下り、久慈郡佐竹の地を領したので佐竹と名乗った。昌義の孫である佐竹別当秀義は、故大将頼朝のために討たれるべきところを、幸運にも免れた。頼朝が奥州の泰衡を討とうと
して下野国宇都宮に至った時、秀義は軍兵を引き連れて参上した。佐竹の旗は皆真っ白であったので、御所の御旗と区別するために、月を描いた扇を給わって旗の上に付けて

Middle Captain of the Left concurrently Governor of Ukyō, Minamoto no Yoshinobu, is an eighteenth-generation descendant of Satake no Kanja Masayoshi, grandson of Shinra Saburō Shigemitsu, the third son of Chinjufu-shōgun Yoriyoshi. Masayoshi went down to Hitachi Province through his maternal connections and ruled the land of Satake in Kuji District, so he took the name Satake. Masayoshi's grandson, Satake Bettō Hideyoshi, should have been killed for the sake of the late General Yoritomo, but by rare fortune was spared. When Yoritomo reached Utsunomiya in Shimotsuke Province to attack Yasuhira of the north,
Hideyoshi came with his soldiers. Since all of Satake's banners were pure white, to distinguish them from His Lordship's banners, he was given a fan painted with a moon to attach to the top of the flags.
