The monk Sōrin was greatly delighted, and in the first year of Genki, he granted the Takahashi domain of Mikasa district to Shuzenhyōe Shigesada, the younger brother of Yoshimatsu Kōsamon-no-dayū Kagamimasa, and had him guard the two castles of Iwaya and Hōman. Shigesada was twenty-three years old that year and took the name Takahashi Shuzen-no-shō Ōkura Shigetane (from this point there became two Takahashi houses). Before reaching the age of thirty, he became a Buddhist monk and took the name Jōun. He himself remained at Iwaya Castle while his son Yahichirō guarded Hōman Castle. On the 27th day of the same month, his father, the monk Jōun, was attacked by a large Shimazu force, Iwaya Castle was taken, over 800 retainers and followers died in battle, and the monk also committed suicide (at age 42). The enemy also pressed upon Hōman Castle and deceived the Takahashi into being captured alive (the Shimazu family genealogy records these events as occurring in Tenshō 13).
