Suruga-no-kami Fujiwara no Naoyori was the son of Kurōdo Naomasa, a resident of Ōmi Province. His ancestors for generations had been retainers of the Muromachi-dono (Ashikaga Shogun house) (The ancestor of this house received an o-horo [military standard] from Shogun Takauji, which has been passed down to this day) (It is said that this person's name has been lost). By the time of Naoyori's grandfather, Yozō Naohiro, he was at Shinjō Castle in Sakata District of Ōmi Province and died in battle at the Battle of Ibukiyama (It is unclear when this occurred). Naomasa, following his father's example, built a castle at Asazuma in the same district and moved there. On the 12th day of the 6th month of Tenbun 18, he sided with Kubō Banshō-in-dono and fought against the forces of Miyoshi at the Battle of Eguchi in Settsu Province, where he and twenty-two of his retainers died together.
