三津城（みつじょう）の御干川（おひがわ）の場所を見立て（みたて）候様にいたすべき旨、先格（せんかく）として下役（したやく）を遣わし候例（れい）御座候間、申し付け、只今より罷り越す様に仰せ付けられ候間、罷り帰り次第、早速申し上ぐべく候。尤も（もっとも）、御手紙にて御干（おひ）のため遊ばされ候由（よし）、条左衛門殿より仰せ聞かされ候。

一、川原見分（かわらけんぶん）、久兵衛罷り帰り候。当作下（とうさくしも）の通り、溝口下（みぞぐちしも）より二瀬（ふたせ）に相出（あいで）候原、勝間（かつま）の方へ分かれ候小役（こやく）、長さ三丁の余も一取（ひとつ）御座候。これより外に、御干川（おひがわ）と相成り候様なる川は御座候様なし。条左衛門殿へ右の趣（おもむき）を申し上ぐべく候。御道筋は、火折平（ひおりひら）より■（道を）上る御登り遊ばされ、志川原（しかわら）へ御出遊ばされ候置き、有るべく御座候。今日、右の趣を仰せ上げられるべく御座候。

Regarding the identification of a suitable location for the river-diversion/drying channel [o-hi-kawa] at Mitsu Castle [Mitsujō]: as there is precedent [sen-kaku] for dispatching a subordinate official [shita-yaku] to carry out such an inspection, instructions have been issued [to Kyūbei] accordingly, and he has been ordered to proceed there immediately. Upon his return, [the results] shall be reported without delay. Furthermore, it has been communicated by Lord Jōzaemon that a letter has been sent [regarding this matter], for the purpose of the river-diversion work.

One item: Kyūbei has returned from his inspection of the riverbed [kawara kenbu]. In the lower section of the current cultivated area [tōsaku-shimo], extending from below Mizoguchi to the confluence of two streams [Futase], there is a small channel [ko-yaku] branching off toward the Katsuma area, measuring over three chō [approximately 330 meters] in total length — this is all in one stretch. Apart from this, there appears to be no other waterway suitable for use as a river-diversion channel [o-hi-kawa]. The above findings are to be reported to Lord Jōzaemon. The route [for the inspection party] is via Hiorihira, ascending ■ [a road], and proceeding to Shikawara; it is expected that [the party] will proceed accordingly. Today, the above matters are to be formally reported [to the appropriate authority].
