右三人の者、年々麻・芋・麻布の運上（税）の請負を差し上げ候ところ、今年中に願い出候。近年までは、南の方（南方の地域）において以前に請け負い、引き合い（採算）が合わず候につき、思し召しをもって運上銭を揃えるよう奉願い候ところ、相済まず申し候。またまた願い上げ候も、■当十月に候えども、御役儀の様にお成りになり、運上を差し出し候。よってまたまた御存知の旨申し上げ候。来年の御請負は相勤め難く御座候。この上、奉願い候存寄（意見）を申し上げ候。この段、御用人中へ申し上げ候。御聞き置き下されたく候。私にも相考え、申し上げ候様によし（との）御中（旨）。

一、二十日過ぎには、松田屋の材木大手形を差し出すべく候。これまた久左衛門壱人（にて取り扱う旨）。

The above three individuals have each year submitted bids to undertake the tax levy (運上) on hemp, taro, and hemp cloth. They have submitted a petition this year. In recent years, in the southern districts, it has previously been the case that undertaking such contracts has not been profitable (lit. "has not been worthwhile"). They petitioned that the levy payments be settled through a special arrangement (思召), but this has not yet been resolved. They have petitioned again, and although it appears to have been around the 10th month [of the relevant year], the matter was treated as an official duty (御役義), and the levy was submitted. Therefore, they are once again reporting their concerns. They state that they will find it difficult to continue undertaking the contract in the coming year. They submit their opinion as a further petition. This matter has been reported to the officials (御用人). We request that this be duly noted. The response was: "I too shall consider the matter and address it accordingly." [Signed by]御中 (a senior official).

Item: Matsudaya Rokuzaemon has submitted documents (証文) concerning the timber and lumber (才木) from Nakazawa Mountain (中沢山), including measurements of lengths and angles (歩・角廻). Accordingly, Kyūemon alone is to provide the countersignature (奥書). Since no colleague (同役) was available at that time, it was reported that the matter would be communicated by letter. The matter was then duly resolved [through whatever arrangement was made].
Item: After the 20th, Matsudaya is to submit the large timber permit (大手形) for the lumber. This too is to be handled by Kyūzaemon alone [i.e., Kuzaemon acting as sole signatory].
