現代語訳

光沢があり、一名を常盤木という。樹は真っ直ぐに上に伸びて高さ一丈余り。四季を通じて枯れることがない。葉は緑色の染料にできる。小さな黄花を開き、橘のような実を結んで食べられる。また一木がある。土地の名で呀喇菩という。葉は皆福木に似て、これも対節に生える。白花は梅に似る。十一、二月に実がなる。ともに君子樹と号する。《小書：葉の紋様が対になって織物のようで、中央の辺りが日に映えて、透明になって金黄色を作る。旧伝に闘鏤樹の葉は橘のようとあり、当にこれがそれである》

【鉄樹】すなわち鳳尾蕉。一名海㯶。棕櫚の幹に蕉の葉である。葉は堅く挺立して対に出て、翻って鳳凰の尾のようである。日に映えて中心に一線あり、虚明で影がない。四季を通じて枯れない。至る所に植えている。

【烏木】葉は桂のように真っ直ぐに上る。外見は普通の木と変わらないが、中心部の木質は黒色である。しかしまた白い筋があるものもある。また紅木もある。

【油樹】葉は橘に似る。実は橘ほどの大きさで食べられない。これを使って油を搾る。また福満木がある。樹の高さ数尺。葉は木槿にやや似て少し小さい。花は橘のよう。子は房々として赤色で食べられる。また樹があって、葉は冬青に似る。高さ一丈余り。花は棗のよう。子は房々として生じ、中国の女貞子のようである。甘酸っぱくて食べられる。また物を染めて青蓮色にもできる。山米と名付け、また野麻姑当とも名付ける。すなわち青精である。

【古巴梯斯】樹の高さ二、三丈余り。葉の大きさは柿のよう。葉の形は五又に分かれる。八、九月に実がなる。青果のようでやや平たい。味は香り甘い。福建にもこれがあり、戊土と名付ける。

【右納】樹の高さ三、四丈余り。葉は白桐に似る。夏の季節に花を開く。中国の秋葵のようで、黄色い花弁で檀色の心がある。

英語訳

and glossy. Also called tokiwa-gi (evergreen tree). The tree grows straight upward to a height of over one zhang. It does not wither throughout the four seasons. The leaves can be used to dye green color. It produces small yellow flowers and bears fruit like oranges that are edible. There is also one tree with the local name ya-ra-bo. All leaves resemble fukugi. They also grow in opposite pairs. White flowers resemble plum blossoms. They fruit in the eleventh and twelfth months. Both are called kunshi-ju (gentleman trees). 《Note: The leaf patterns are paired like weaving, the center edge reflects in the sun, becoming transparent and creating a golden-yellow color. Old records mention that doulou tree leaves are like oranges - this must be exactly that.》

【Iron Tree】This is the phoenix-tail cycad. Also called kai-sō. It has a palm trunk with cycad leaves. The leaves are rigid and upright, emerging in pairs, curving like a phoenix tail. Reflecting in the sun, there is one line in the center, clear and shadowless. It does not wither through the four seasons. It is planted everywhere.

【Black Wood】Leaves are like cinnamon, growing straight upward. The exterior is no different from ordinary trees, but the heartwood is black in color. However, there are also those with white grain. There is also red wood.

【Oil Tree】Leaves resemble oranges. Fruit is about the size of oranges but inedible. It is used to press oil. There is also fukuman-gi. The tree is several feet high. Leaves somewhat resemble hibiscus but are slightly smaller. Flowers are like oranges. Seeds cluster in red color and are edible. There is another tree with leaves resembling holly. Height over one zhang. Flowers like jujube. Seeds grow in clusters like China's ligustrum seeds. Sweet and sour, edible. Can also dye things to make blue-lotus color. Called yama-kome (mountain rice), also called no-makoto. This is sei-sei (blue essence).

【Gubadisu】Tree height over two to three zhang. Leaves large like persimmon. Leaf shape has five branches. Fruits in the eighth and ninth months. Like green fruit but somewhat flattened. Taste is fragrant and sweet. Fujian also has this, called bosho.

【Una】Tree height over three to four zhang. Leaves resemble paulownia. Opens flowers in late summer. Like China's autumn mallow with yellow petals and sandalwood-colored center.
