Like the sword-shaped grasses of Okusa's Kencho, the true-leafed lawn stretches broadly across the fields, seemingly viewed from afar. Punting a pole like a vine tendril, one rows a moon-boat around the shores of the mountain willows; resting beneath the pampas grass and kudzu-covered embankment, the waves wash back and forth here at one's very feet. Viewing the richly colored rice stalks heaped upon one another in the autumn harbor-fields, one cannot help but think of the labor of the common people, as the saying goes — "every grain has been won through hardship." Peering through the path beneath the dyed autumn leaves, what is it that the deep-dyed crimson pool is known for? One can only see it as the spreading out of brocade silk. Lingering a while in the village where one asks after the moon, crossing the pass of Takeno-ha Mountain, one shall seek out the shore where the moon is awaited. The light rising up over the Bay of Ariake spreads without a shadow of dimness; at Torii-ga-saki, where the gods dwell, and at Otome-ga-saki, where sacred jewels are gathered, the sound of the gentle waves is heard deep in the night — though one looks upon it with reverence, the Bay of Ajiro is never wearying to behold. How intriguing to wonder: who awaits the night-shallows of the fisherman's torches? If one were to walk the mountain path of the sounds and colors of words, how much more like the nesting-place of flowers and birds one's heart would feel at rest. To behold in one place the scenery of all four seasons in this manner is truly without equal. As for the expression of gratitude, may it continue without cease through the narrow bamboo path, may flourishing increase to the very tips of the leaves of the pine islets, and, taking as precedent the shore of a thousand years that never crumbles, may one continue to bathe in the gracious waves of Your Lordship's benevolence; and wishing that you may long enjoy the moon and blossoms in this floating life of a thousand autumns, I offer my congratulations — and with that thought, I too wish for nothing more than to become once again a figure within this painting. *Masatori* [with seal/signature]
