現代語訳
無為都雖楽（無為の都は楽しいといえども）
放逸輩不遊（放逸の輩は遊ばず）
信言は美ならず
というように、肘を杖として枕とし、楽しみがその中にあることを知らない。
飴売りの笛には寝んねした子の目を覚まし、大神楽の太鼓には乳母殿も駆け出す。迷いごの鐘太鼓には心ない下女も耳を覆い、後世を願う念仏も節をつけなければ衆生には聞こえない。
『曲礼』に曰く「欲を欲しいままにすべからず、楽しみは極めるべからず」。欲にふけって楽しむのは真の楽しみではない。甘酒に生酔いし、薄い外郎を銀煮する人に合わず。
♪「思うこと二つの欠けたるその跡は花の都も田舎なりけり」とは世阿弥の妙言である。にぎにぎは頭てんてんの元にして、あわわは頭を振り振りに変えよ、なんと合点か。
♪楽しみは夕顔棚の下涼み、男は手拭い、女は扇して。
貧楽の譬えの通り、悪をなして楽しむのは何を苦しむことと同じ。
♪「よう咲いたことじゃ」
♪「鯛の味噌汁で一杯飲み、受け山の勝酒と出かけるよりも、やはり渋茶を飲む方が楽しみじゃてや」

敬老如父母（老いたる者を敬うことは父母のごとくとし）愛幼如子弟（幼き者を愛することは子弟のごとくとし）
我敬他人者（我、他人を敬えば）他人亦敬我（他人また我を敬う）
情けは人のためならずとはよく言ったもの。今日はよい天気ですねと言えば、向こうでもそのようにのどかに答える。人に人情をなし、人の悪いのは我が悪いなり。我から誠を尽くせば向こうも誠で返す。
たとえば麦焦がしの移り香に火をつけて返し、鰻の返報はとろろ汁で呼ばれる。我が身をつめって人の痛さを知れということもあり。聖人も「四海皆兄弟なり」とのたまったぞ。やがて女童はやさしきを面とするものなれば、愛想が第一じゃ。
人の善悪は己によるものにして、打てば響く、叩けば鳴る太鼓の音の「どんどんがちどん」だと言われるのがその身のかちかちにて、盛り上がりは要らぬものじゃ。
♪「お迎えならばお送り申しましょう。お孫様、そのような長い御袖を」

英語訳
"Though the capital of non-action is pleasant, those who are dissolute do not play there."
"Trustworthy words are not beautiful."
Thus, using one's elbow as a staff for a pillow, one does not know that pleasure lies within.
The flute of the candy seller awakens sleeping children, and the drums of the grand kagura make even the wet nurses rush out. At the sound of temple bells and drums, even thoughtless servant girls cover their ears, and Buddhist chants for the afterlife cannot be heard by sentient beings unless they have a melody.
The "Quli" (Book of Rites) states: "Do not indulge desires freely, and do not pursue pleasures to excess." To indulge in desires and seek pleasure is not true pleasure. Like getting tipsy on sweet sake and serving thin uiro cakes boiled in silver - this does not suit refined people.
♪"When the two things I desire are lacking, even the capital of flowers becomes countryside" - this is a profound saying by Zeami. "Niginigi" originates from "head ten-ten," and "awawa" should change to "head shaking-shaking" - how do you understand this?
♪Pleasure is cooling under the evening glory trellis, men with hand towels, women with fans.
As the parable of poverty and pleasure goes, finding joy in doing evil is the same as suffering.
♪"How well they have bloomed!"
♪"Rather than drinking sake with sea bream miso soup and going out with victory sake from the mountain, it's better to simply drink astringent tea for pleasure."

"Respect the elderly as if they were your parents; love the young as if they were your siblings."
"If I respect others, others will also respect me."
"Kindness is not just for others" - how well said this is! When you say "What nice weather today," the other person responds just as pleasantly. Show humanity to people; when people are bad, it's because we are bad. If we extend sincerity, others return sincerity.
For example, lighting fire with the transferred scent of roasted barley and returning it, or being invited to eel with grated yam soup in return. There's also the saying "pinch yourself to know others' pain." Even the sage said "All within the four seas are brothers." Since young women should make gentleness their facade, amiability is most important.
People's good and evil depend on themselves - strike and it resonates, beat and it sounds like a drum going "don-don gachi-don." Being called this is due to one's own rigidity, and putting on airs is unnecessary.
