かるわざしは一ぼんのつなのうへをなんのくろうもなくわたる
やうなれどもゆたんをすればじきさまおつこちてこしのほねを
ぶんぬくゆへけんぶつはへいきなつらをしていれどもむねのかゞみの
内にてはなんでもおつこちてはならぬと一本つなへいのちかきりに
かぢりついているところのすがたがうつる又人のよの中をわたるは
かの壱本つなをわたるよりもあやふくゆだんをすれはとせいの
つなをふみはづしてしんだいのこしをぶんぬきたちまちこつ
じきおこも#1となるされば人みなわがかぎやうのつなにいのち

現代語訳
軽業師は一本の綱の上を何の苦労もなく渡るようであるけれども、油断をすればすぐさま落ちて腰の骨を折ってしまうため、見物は平気な顔をしているけれども、胸の鏡の内では「何でも落ちてはならない」と一本綱へ命がけにかじりついているところの姿が映る。また人の世の中を渡るのは、かの一本綱を渡るよりも危なく、油断をすれば処世の綱を踏み外して身代の腰を折り、たちまち乞食となる。されば人みな我が稼業の綱に命がけでかじりつき、必ず踏み外して落ちぬように慎み心がけるべし。
勇者は安きに居て危うきを忘れず、軽業師は危うきに居て安きを忘れず。
「ああ、家でまた嬶の金遣いを荒くしなければよいが」と思っている。
「ああ、よいさて」
♪東西東西、いよいよ太夫出来より申すれば、綱の元へ差し掛からせ申す。てんてんてんてん。まずまず最初は箸を片手に負け物明くる、これを名付けて達磨大師の座禅豆。さてさてその次は、すくさまこなたへ体をもどして、お茶漬けさらさら。さてさてその次は口へ頬張り箸子の元へ膳を運ぶ、これを名付けて逆立ちすると申します。あんまり剣引き張り倒。
人の心と秋の空は変わりやすいものなり。油断すべからず。そのような人の胸の鏡には、のぞきから栗の形が映り、釜山海の港の景色が映るかと思えば秋の宮島の景色と変わり、極楽の体裁が映るかと思えば地獄の有様と変わり、人ごとに心の内をのぞいてみれば、表の看板はみな偽りなり。これみな迷いの糸に引かれて、かように胸の鏡が映り変わるなり。しかし善念に立ち返り、これも仏の心に光明の火が灯り申す。善の方はお変わりなし。
♪天狗というものは高山にばかりいるものではない。俺はよっぽど利口なものだ。こう名医薬の木置きにしろなんとして、俺に敵うものだ、と髭を撫でて塩焼きが高慢して、高慢の天狗が胸の鏡に映り、ついにはその身を害す。恐るべし。
♪大方また蜀の劉備玄徳や五大湖の大王様が謀り事をしてくれろと言って頼みに来るだろう。今から髭を撫でておかざあ間に合うまい。うるさいぞ、もう。

A tightrope walker appears to cross a single rope without any difficulty, but if they let their guard down, they will immediately fall and break their back. So while spectators watch with calm faces, in the mirror of their heart is reflected the image of desperately clinging to the single rope, thinking "I must not fall at all costs." In the mirror of such a person's heart, the shape of chestnuts appears from peeping, and what seems like the scenery of Busan harbor transforms into the scenery of autumn Miyajima, and what seems like the appearance of paradise transforms into the state of hell. When you peek into each person's heart, all the signboards on the surface are lies. All of this is pulled by the threads of delusion, causing the mirror of the heart to change reflections in this way. However, when returning to good thoughts, the light of enlightenment kindles in the Buddha's heart. The good side remains unchanged.
♪ Tengu are not creatures that live only in high mountains. "I am quite clever. With famous medicines and wood placement, who can match me?" - stroking his beard with arrogance, the tengu of pride is reflected in the mirror of his heart, ultimately harming himself. How fearsome!
♪ Probably Liu Bei Xuande of Shu or the great king of the five great lakes will come asking me to make plans for them. I'd better stroke my beard now or it won't be ready in time. How bothersome!
