【看板】昆布数の子引替所
昆布・数の子引き換え定座を立て、義経公の御威勢をもって申し触らしたため、荒布・さがら布・胡麻目を取り替えるのは嫌ではないので、蝦夷中の者が日々引きも切らさず昆布・数の子を持ち来たり、引き換えてもらう。
【以下、蝦夷人たちの台詞】
「この昆布は少し切れがございますが、なんとおまけにはなりますまいか。昆布助のにこごりという所です。」
「そんなようでも一表持ってきて八表になる所は、まず得なようだ。」
「損得なのやつとこな。」
【ここより下巻】
そもそも蝦夷国は五穀のみならず織物の類も勝れなし。蝦夷錦というものもあるけれども、これも北京より渡ってきて国の王ばかり着用し、その他は全く着ることができず、よって皆々昆布を身にまとっていたのを、そのままでは格好が悪いとて、この度呉服所を始め、昆布に代わり縞あるいは小紋等の仕出しをして、ことの外見事なることなり。
「蝦夷中日本の通りと仰せ出されたゆえ、蝦夷八百八町を開き、ことの外賑わう。」
「これは紛いではございません。本に昆布のようでございます。子供よ、お茶をあげろ。」
「これは出世小紋と申しまして、ことの外流行ります。」
「京伝の小紋細のような小紋はないかの。」

[Sign] Kelp and Herring Roe Exchange Office
A kelp and herring roe exchange office was established, and by virtue of Lord Yoshitsune's authority, this was proclaimed throughout the land. Since trading seaweed, sagara seaweed, and small dried sardines was not disagreeable, people from all over Ezo brought kelp and herring roe daily without interruption to exchange them.
[Dialogue of Ezo people]
"This kelp has some tears in it, but couldn't you give me something extra? It's from Konbu-suke's 'nikogori' place."
"Even so, bringing one bale and getting eight bales in return seems quite profitable."
"That fellow always thinks about profit and loss."

In the first place, Ezo country excels not only in the five grains but also lacks superior textiles. Though there is something called "Ezo brocade," this too comes from Beijing, and only the country's king wears it - others cannot wear it at all. Therefore, since everyone wrapped themselves in kelp, and this looked unseemly, they established clothing stores this time, creating stripes and small patterns to replace kelp, which turned out remarkably splendid.
"Since it was proclaimed that all of Ezo should follow Japanese customs, Ezo's 808 districts were opened up and became extraordinarily prosperous."
