大言（だいげん）
夫（それ）草双紙（それくさぞうし）の作（さく）に六義（りくぎ）あり一に曰（いはく）思附（おもひつき）二に

大言（序文）
そもそも草双紙の創作には六つの要素がある。一つ目は「思いつき」、二つ目は「意気」、三つ目は「出来栄え」、四つ目は「働き（効果）」、五つ目は「かせき」、六つ目は「はたき」と呼ばれるものである。私は四、五年来、草双紙の執筆を休んで、ひそかにこのことを考え続け、物事の本質を探究することで、ついにこの六つの要素を理解し、最高級で油を引かない（素朴な）思いつきの作風を創作するに至った。ウヌ々々（自得の様子）。

Preface (Bold Declaration)
Now, the creation of kusazōshi (illustrated booklets) has six essential elements. The first is called "inspiration" (omoitsuki), the second is called "spirit" (iki), the third is called "execution" (deki), the fourth is called "effectiveness" (hataraki), the fifth is called "kaseki," and the sixth is called "hataki." For the past four or five years, I have refrained from writing kusazōshi and have secretly contemplated these matters. Through investigating the essence of things, I have finally understood these six elements and have come to create works in the highest style of unvarnished (natural) inspiration. Unu-unu (expressing self-satisfaction).
