右門の滝を登り、奥蝦夷の地に到着されたところ、まことに不毛の地で人の気配は絶えて、宿るべき所もないので、荒海より昆布を持ち来たりて、仮に陣屋を拵え、一夜を明かし給う。奥蝦夷はまことに北の果てゆえ寒気強く、六月土用の頃ばかり少し暖かなるゆえ、四季一度にもち込んで、その景色は言うばかりなし。ただ食い物のないには困るとなり。

【Narrative text】
Having climbed Umon-no-taki waterfall, they arrived in the interior lands of Ezo. It was truly a barren land with no sign of human presence and no place to lodge, so they brought kelp from the rough sea, built a temporary camp, and spent the night. The interior of Ezo is truly at the northern extremity, so the cold is severe, and only around June during the summer heat period does it become somewhat warm. All four seasons come at once, creating an indescribable landscape. The only problem is that there is no food to be found.
