現代語訳
蝦夷の地は五穀が普通には採れないが、奥蝦夷は別してこれがない。ただあるものといえば、昆布、数の子、魚ばかりなり。義経、日々開かれた地より用意ありし兵糧も少なきゆえ、魚を捕りて兵糧の足しにし給う内に、別して鮒を捕り、焼き鮒にして蓄え、また米を研ぐ際、おびただしく白い水を囲い置き給う。
「焼き鮒は美味いやつだが、白水は何になることか知らぬ。よく先達に、上さんが欲しがるやつだ」
「亀井殿の焙烙はきついものだ」

義経公は奥蝦夷インツウフツテヱス首領大王の城へ進む。十丈に石垣を突き立て、昆布・荒布の軸を干し固めて逆茂木に引用し、心許しき所を、かねて蓄え置かれし白水に返し土を混ぜて、水鉄砲をもって弾きかけ給えば、たちまち柔らかになりける所を、後より醤油を弾きかけて、残らず食いつくし得たりやあふと攻め入り給う。
「白水は何になるかと思ったら、なるほど、お屋形の智恵はかくべつだ」
「いよ、玉屋と褒めてくれろ」
英語訳
The land of Ezo does not normally produce the five grains, but the interior of Ezo particularly lacks these. The only things available are kelp, herring roe, and fish. Since Yoshitsune's provisions brought from the settled lands were running low, he caught fish to supplement their rations. In particular, they caught crucian carp, made dried grilled carp for storage, and when washing rice, they saved an enormous amount of white starchy water.

Lord Yoshitsune advances toward the castle of the great king, chief of the interior Ezo tribe "Intsuu-futtewesu." The castle has stone walls built ten fathoms high, with dried kelp and seaweed stalks hardened and used as defensive spikes. When they attacked the vulnerable spots by mixing returned earth with the white starchy water they had saved beforehand and shooting it with water guns, the defenses immediately became soft. Then they shot soy sauce from behind, and having devoured everything completely, they charged in with a battle cry.
"I wondered what the white water would be used for, but indeed, our lord's wisdom is exceptional!"
"Bravo! Praise it like 'Tamaya!'"
