現代語訳
持っている休株を、同人がどのような心得か、御立株の件で願い出たという話を聞いたので、
先方に二度にわたって掛け合いましたところ、私の方に休株があるように聞いているので
願い出たが、貴殿には少しも関わりがないように申されるので、
お上様には恐れ入りますが、やむを得ず嘆願いたします。喜左衛門が先年貸し置いた
株の手続きも承知しながら、私を出し抜いて願書を提出した件は、先年の実意を
忘却した段、もってのほかのことです。何卒ご慈悲をもって詳細をお調べ
くださいますようお願い申し上げます。ご慈悲をもって前述の始末を喜左衛門にご理解
くださり、私に御立株を願い上げさせていただけるよう、御鑑札をお下しくださいますよう
お願い申し上げます。
右の趣旨

右の願書のほかに証文写類一通を添えて二十九日、御役所において近藤氏に
差し上げました。
英語訳
Regarding the dormant sake brewing license he possesses, I heard that this person had somehow submitted a petition for reinstatement of the license.
When I inquired with him twice about this matter, he said he had heard that I possessed a dormant license, so he submitted his petition, but claimed that you (referring to the petitioner) had no connection to it whatsoever.
Therefore, although I am deeply apologetic to the authorities, I have no choice but to make this earnest petition. Kichiemon, despite being aware of the procedures regarding the license I had lent him in previous years, went behind my back to submit his petition - this forgetting of his previous good faith is utterly outrageous. I humbly request that you mercifully investigate the details of this matter thoroughly.
Through your mercy, please make Kichiemon understand the circumstances described above, and allow me to petition for reinstatement of the license, granting me the official permit.
