Same day
Item: Today, for the official inspection (kenbu) of weirs at Benzaiten Kawahara and Takigi Kawahara, three officials (goyōnin) and the two of us, along with Kyūbei whom we brought with us, proceeded to the site, whereupon [the construction of the weir] was ordered to proceed. Gonzaemon-dono handled all matters and saw them through to completion. We were instructed by Jōzaemon-dono that both of us in the same role (dōyaku) should appear together in consultation.
11th Day
Item: Having been summoned by Jōzaemon-dono and duly presenting ourselves, we were told the following: Has a notification been submitted by Rokuemon's party regarding the procurement [of timber] in the valley of Kajiki-iri, followed by downriver transport? Furthermore, has a notification of downriver transport been submitted by a person called Banemon of Ichinose Village? I reported that during my month of duty (tsukiban), I had received no such notification whatsoever. [Jōzaemon-dono replied that] if that were so, then it was also unknown whether any such notification had been submitted to our colleagues the previous month, and instructed us to inquire among them and submit a written report. Accordingly, I went to my colleagues to inquire. [It emerged that] during this spring, [Rokuemon's party] had spoken of wishing to procure [timber] from the valley of Kaji-iri by making arrangements, but at that time no formal response had been given by anyone. Therefore, a written report was submitted, as follows to the left.
