【Left folio】 28th Day Item: Regarding Zaemon of Kurogouchi Village, who has urgently petitioned [the authorities] wishing to return [to his village] soon — [we] have sent word that [his request] should be acknowledged and received. 29th Day Item: Upon going out to attend to today's official business, ■ Jōzaemon-dono was indisposed (unwell), and therefore Jūzō-dono attended to the official business in his place. [We] reported various matters, [and it turned out that] there was no [further] official business [to attend to]. 29th Day Item: Rihyeiji of Shimokawate Village has submitted a request to install a small fish weir (ko-yana); [we have] duly received and acknowledged [this request]. Same Day Item: Sehyōe [has submitted a request] to install a small fish weir at Yamada Kawara; [we have] duly received and acknowledged [this request]. Item: A letter from Harazaemon-dono, the contents of which are as follows: "Regarding the matter of which I informed you recently — [namely,] the allocation to those serving weir duties (o-yana-yaku) — please submit [your claims/reports] as each sees fit. Furthermore, [I should inform you that] the senior councillors (o-karō-jū) have arranged that our fish weirs (o-yana) are to be discontinued (abolished) henceforth. I trust you will bear this in mind. Respectfully, 7th Month, 29th Day Kamiya Kumezaemon To: Satō Kyūemon-dono" Same Day Item: Since the official fish weirs (o-yana) are to be discontinued, Nagasaka Tokuzaemon-dono, who has long wished to install a weir on the Omaki River (御薪川), [has petitioned accordingly]. [It was relayed that he] should apply to the Omaki-kata (御薪方, the authority managing that waterway) and ■-suke, and request permission to install [a weir there]. Once all matters are properly settled, it is [understood that] Masaemon-dono will be the one to install [the weir].
