八月二十日、御役所にて高橋氏のお取り次ぎにより差し上げ申し候。
酒屋一同に尋ねたところ、現在仕込み中の酒は一斗三升掛け合いの相場で造っているため、右の通りに売り出したい旨を申し聞かせがございました。この段、申し上げます。当時の相場は一斗八升から二斗もあり、この点についても申し上げ候。
八月二十日、新酒一升代金九百六文にて九月二日より
売り出すよう御沙汰がありましたので、九月一日に問屋へ酒屋一同の行司を呼び、
申し渡し候。
英語訳
New sake, one shō [unit of volume] Note: At current exchange, hulled rice is priced at
one tō and three shō per ryō.
Price: 1 kan, 136 mon This is 100 mon cheaper than the current
money-exchange market rate of 8 kan mon.
We wish to begin selling [the sake] at the above price. Respectfully submitted.
Eighth month, Year of the Rabbit [1867] Town
Sake brewers, collectively
On the 20th day of the eighth month, this was submitted through the intermediary of Mr. Takahashi at the magistrate's office.
Upon inquiring of the sake brewers, they informed us that the sake currently being brewed is produced at a cost based on the exchange rate of one tō and three shō [of rice per ryō], and therefore they wished to sell it at the above price. We hereby report this matter. The current market rate [for rice] ranges from one tō eight shō to even two tō per ryō, and we report this point as well.
On the 20th day of the eighth month, an official directive was issued that new sake should be sold from the 2nd day of the ninth month at a price of 906 mon per shō. Accordingly, on the 1st day of the ninth month, the sake brewers' representative (gyōji) was summoned to the wholesaler's office and informed of this decision.
