すでにこの刀にて手₋打にもせむと怒（イカリ）しは。さても危（アヤフキ）ことな
りとおもひて。昨⁻夜は寐（ネ）もやらず後（コウ）⁻悔（クワイ）せしなれば。当⁻坐の
褒（ハウ）⁻美（ビ）にこれをとらするとて刀を賜り。家⁻老次⁻席にて。大に
加⁻増（ゾウ）したりし。これ則（スナハチ）吾（ワガ）禅（ゼン）の極⁻意にて。この外に伝（デン）⁻授（ジユ）す
べきこともなし。たゞ主⁻人あるものは。身⁻命を拋（ナゲイダシ）て。私（ワタクシ）なき
を仏の本⁻意禅の悟（ゴ）⁻道と心得られよと誡（イマシメ）たりしとなり。

As an immediate reward, I give you this," and he bestowed a sword upon him, appointing him as second senior retainer with a great increase in stipend. "This is precisely the ultimate teaching of my Zen practice, and there is nothing else to transmit beyond this. Simply understand that one who serves a master should cast aside body and life, and having no selfish concerns is the Buddha's true intention and the enlightened way of Zen," he admonished.
