七菜というものは共に限りなく応じ、格別の祝い、先祖の霊祭などに用いる。また五菜に次々、上輩の御方というものはその用いるべし。組合せ様心得なるべし。中輩以下に用いるべきは次の一汁の組合せたるべし。もっとも一汁にて貴輩、中輩より下輩の押し渡したる料理に組合せたるを申して色々多し。

One should understand the combination arrangements. For middle rank and below, the following one-soup combination should be used. Particularly with one soup, there are many variations in combinations of dishes passed down from noble rank through middle rank to lower rank.
