現代語訳
しに十倍の五つ布団を引き散らし、そこで双六、囲碁、将棋、双六などを楽しみ、茶釜の湯の沸く音も静かで趣深く面白い。江戸節などを次の間で禿（かむろ）が琴を弾き鳴らして、暑い心も全くなくなる。七月一日からは家々の軒に様々な燈籠に灯を点して並べ、百の花が百日間一度に照らすかのごとく、老いも若きに誘われ、男女が袖を押し合って大通りも震えるほどに所狭しと行き交う有様は、言葉や筆紙では書き尽くせない。私は推量していただきたい。

...spreading out ten times five futons, playing sugoroku, go, shogi, and other games there. The sound of the tea kettle boiling is quiet, elegant, and amusing. Edo-bushi songs and such are played on the koto by kamuro (young attendants) in the next room, making even the hot weather feel pleasant. From the first day of the seventh month, various lanterns are lit and lined up under the eaves of each house, as if a hundred flowers were illuminating for a hundred days all at once. The old are enticed by the young, men and women press sleeves together, and the main street shakes with the bustling crowds - such scenes cannot be fully described in words or writing. I ask you to imagine it for yourselves.
