上代風（宮中の古典的な風俗）、上京（京都上部）の町風、下げ髪に打掛の裾がちらりと見えて美しく、乗り物の内部も奥ゆかしく、伽羅の香りがほのかに香り、被衣や笠の下も艶やかであることを、女性たちはよくよく真似なさるべきです。
○女性の嗜み物語ならびに諸々の戒めのこと
女性が嗜んでよいこと悪いことを大まかに書き記します。
【女性が慎むべき悪いこと】
親に孝行しないこと、姑に不孝なこと、夫を敬わないこと、
継子を憎むこと、色情に深いこと、嫉妬深いこと、
大声で話すこと、男勝りなこと、大酒を飲むこと、
大食いすること、煙草を吸うこと、小唄を歌うこと、
食べ物に卑しいこと、芝居好きなこと、朝寝すること、
欲深いこと、けちなこと、無愛想なこと、
人の悪口を言うこと、言葉が多いこと、怒りっぽいこと、
頑固なこと、人の物を貶すこと、自慢顔なこと、
愛想笑いすること、肩をぬぐこと、力仕事をすること
この他にも良いこと悪いことを選び分け、朝夕に心がけて嗜みなさるべきです。

手習いをすること、歌を詠むこと、歌学をすること、
源氏物語・伊勢物語・百人一首・古今和歌集・万葉集の意味を知ること、
裁縫をすること、紡績をすること、機織りをすること

Being greedy about food, being obsessed with theater, sleeping late,
Being avaricious, being stingy, being unfriendly,
Speaking ill of others, talking too much, being quick to anger,
Being stubborn, disparaging others' possessions, having a boastful attitude,
Making insincere smiles, baring one's shoulders, doing heavy labor
Beyond these, one should distinguish between good and bad conduct and cultivate proper behavior morning and evening.
