一はげたる所又はうすき所に髪（かみ）のはゆる薬（くすり）
うぶかみ はらや 松（まつ）やに ねずみのふん ほそのを

しまだ此（この）ほかさま〳〵のゆひやうありといへどもうへ〳〵は
下髪（さげかみ）町風（まちふう）は京も田舎（いなか）も嶋田（しまた）かうがいわけの二 色（いろ）上（じやう）ら
うも下女（けす）もおしなへてゆふ事に七八十年此かたにおよべり
わきつめのやつししま田（た）はわけらしくて目にたちふり袖（そて）

現代語訳
一、禿げた所又は薄い所に髪の生える薬
産毛 腹や 松やに 鼠の糞 細の緒
右をよく粉にして胡麻の油で練って付けなさるべし
一、髪の結い様のこと 兵庫 吹上げ 角髷 分髪 ぐるぐる 丸髷 五段分髪 下髪 笄髷 大島田 今時流行るやつし島田 この他様々の結い様があるといえども、上々は下髪、町風は京も田舎も島田、笄分の二色、上臈も下女も押しなべて結うことが七八十年この方に及んでいる。脇詰のやつし島田は若々しくて目立ち、振袖の笄分は大人っぽくて嫌なものなので、それぞれに結い給うべし。島田、笄ともに高いのは田舎めいている。牡丹の花が垣根の内に高からず低からず生けた花の花瓶との相応の程を思いはかり給うべし。前髪も高く幅広く分けたのは醜い。鬢も押し出すことが過ぎたのは鳥兜を着たようで見苦しい。鬢の生え盛りを切り揃えたのは古風である。生やしたてて鬢付で掻き上げたのがよい。首筋の生え際を剃り上げたのはとてもはしたない。剃った跡へ白粉を厚く塗って見るのもうっとうしい。生え際を波よく抜き揃えたのも人形の首を見るようで嫌である。目に立たぬように大体に抜くべし。

One should pluck roughly so it doesn't stand out.
