此ほかなにゝてもにほふものくふへからず
一 真桑瓜（まくわうり）くふ事たてに四つにわり楊枝（やうじ）をそへてさらに入（いれ）
出（いづ）へし楊枝（やうし）をとり瓜（うり）の中（なか）こをこきすてゝ楊枝（やうじ）にさし
くひ給ふべし
一 茶（ちや）をのむ事 茶台（ちやだい）にすへきたるを右（みき）にてとりのみ左（ひたり）にと

現代語訳
この他、何であっても匂いのするものは食べてはいけません。
一、真桑瓜を食べること 縦に四つに割り、楊枝を添えて皿に入れて出すべきです。楊枝を取り、瓜の中の種をかき出して捨て、楊枝に刺して食べなさい。
一、茶を飲むこと 茶台に据えてきたものを右手で取って飲み、左手で取り直して下に置くべきです。通いの女中が取って台に載せ替えます。茶が熱い時にすすって飲み、茶碗などを振り回すことがあってはいけません。

Besides these, you must not eat anything with a strong odor.
1. On eating makuwa melon: Cut it lengthwise into four pieces, add a toothpick, and serve it on a plate. Take the toothpick, scrape out and discard the seeds from inside the melon, pierce it with the toothpick, and eat it.
1. On drinking tea: Take what has been placed on the tea stand with your right hand and drink, then take it with your left hand to set it down below. A visiting maid will take it and place it back on the stand. When the tea is hot, you may sip it, but you must never swing the tea bowl around.
