【十五】生まれ子の次第
子が生まれ落ちて初声を上げぬ先に、綿にて指を包み、口の中の古血を残らず取るべし。古血を飲み込めば疱瘡重きものなり。よって産には取り上げ婆二人有るべし。一人は子、一人は親につくべし。婆一人にて親子の役をさする事あるべからず。婆一人なればまず親にかかりいて、子は薦の上に捨て置くゆえに、その間に口に含みたる胎毒を初声と一度に飲み込みて、疱瘡・瘡などを患う事なり。
一、産湯は米のとぎ汁に塩を少しずつ混じ入るべし
一、生まれ子の上げ着は布なり。綿にて水を取るべし
一、産着の事 男の子は左の手より通させ、女の子は右より袖を通さすべし。上をば帯結ばず打ち掛けるべし
一、名を付ける事は七夜の内にするべし。名がいまだ決まらずば、仮名なりとも七夜の内に付けるを習いとす

【Fifteen】Procedures for the Newborn
When a child is born and falls, before it cries its first cry, wrap your finger in cotton and remove all the old blood from inside its mouth. If the old blood is swallowed, smallpox will be severe.
