一 灰（はい）をしやうの事ひし形（かた）におすべしいつれもおしきる
所（ところ）を長（ちやう）におすべし半（はん）にはいむ事なり
一たき物（もの）のときは灰（はい）をおさずしてぎんばんはかりにてたくべし
又たき物（もの）をたきてのち沈（ちん）をたくべからず

一 火（ひ）かげんの事はじめは少（ちと）つよくとりて真那斑（まなばん）などのわろ

現代語訳
と下の句を書き付けたことが伊勢物語に見えています。よって歌かるたの上の句・下の句を分けたものを「ついまつ」というのです。「ついまつ」とは「対松」のことです。
㊄香を聞くこと《付録》十炷香
一、盆に香炉を置くことについて、香炉は中央、香箱は左、香箸は右に置くべきです。これは三つ組の心得です。
一、香炉の火は炭団で取るべきです。炭団の焼き方は、胡桃の殻と松笠二味をよくよく焼いて、薄糊で固めて用いるべきです。
一、灰を押す方法は、菱形に押すべきです。いずれも押し切る箇所を長く押すべきです。半分に灰を盛ることです。
一、焚き物の時は灰を押さずに、銀盤ばかりで焚くべきです。また焚き物を焚いた後に沈香を焚いてはいけません。
一、香炉を人の前に出す時は、表へ香炉の脚二つを向けて置くべきです。脚一つを先へ向けるべきです。
一、火加減のことについて、初めは少し強く取って、真南蛮などの悪い香を聞いて火合いがよくなった時によい香を聞くべきです。火が強い時は香を銀盤の真ん中に置かず、片隅に置くべきです。会稽籠の時は火が少し強くてもよいです。また空焚きには銀盤を置かないものです。

㊄ About Listening to Incense《Appendix》Ten-Stick Incense
1. Regarding placing the incense burner on a tray: the incense burner should be placed in the center, the incense box on the left, and the incense chopsticks on the right. This is the principle of the three-piece arrangement.
1. The fire in the incense burner should be made with charcoal balls. The method for making charcoal balls is to thoroughly burn walnut shells and pine cones together, then bind them with thin paste for use.
1. For pressing the ash: it should be pressed into a diamond shape. In all cases, the cutting areas should be pressed long. This means mounding the ash in half.
1. When burning fragrant wood, do not press the ash but burn only on the silver plate. Also, do not burn aloeswood after burning fragrant wood.
1. When presenting the incense burner before someone, place it with two legs of the incense burner facing toward the front, with one leg pointing forward.
1. Regarding fire adjustment: at the beginning, take it a little strong and listen to inferior incense like manaban, then when the fire balance becomes good, listen to fine incense. When the fire is strong, do not place the incense in the center of the silver plate but place it in a corner. During eji-kago, it is acceptable for the fire to be a little strong. Also, for empty burning, no silver plate is used.
