一　下町の池野屋伊七の捨て子が七月頃から病気になり、八月二十五日に重病となったため届け出があり、役所に報告いたしました。ところが同月二十七日に死去した旨の届け出があったところ、願書をもって申し出るよう指示書をいただきましたので、左記の通りです。

　　　恐れながら口上書をもってお届け申し上げます
　弘化三年丙午年七月二十七日より養育しております
　捨て子の女子が七月下旬より病気になりましたが、
　別紙養育書の通り捨て子の療養に努めました
　けれども、ついには回復せず、今月二十七日
　明け方の午前六時頃に病死いたしました。この件をお届け申し上げます。以上

One: The abandoned child taken in by Ikeya Ishichi of the lower town became ill around the seventh month, and on the twenty-fifth day of the eighth month developed a serious illness. A report was made and we submitted this to the magistrate's office. However, when we reported that the child died on the twenty-seventh day of the same month, we were given instructions to submit a formal petition, which is as follows:

　　　We humbly submit this formal report
　Regarding the abandoned female child whom we have been
　caring for since the twenty-seventh day of the seventh month
　of Kōka 3, Year of the Fire Horse: she became ill in late seventh month.
　As documented in the separate child-rearing records, we provided
　medical treatment for the abandoned child,
　but ultimately her recovery was not possible, and on the twenty-seventh day
　of this month at dawn, around the hour of the Rabbit, she died of illness.
　We hereby report this matter. That is all.
