（前頁より続き）…海上おおよそ十里を隔てて、サンタン〔#1〕という国がある。その土人は蝦夷人ではない。ここから満州〔#2〕へは地続きであり、したがって中国の北京〔#3〕にも地続きである。
クナシリ島〔#4〕とエトロフ島〔#5〕は、楷書で書いた「人」の字の形に似ている。「丿」の点はエトロフ島であり、「乀」の点はクナシリ島に似ている。これより北、赤人〔#6〕が住居するカムサスカ〔#7〕までは、島々が馬の蹄のように海中に連なり続いている。
カムサスカの北にチョウキチ〔#8〕という異国があって、赤人に従っている。カムサスカより西は、赤人の王城の地まで一帯の地続きである。いまだ到ったことのない土地ではあるけれども、ロシア〔#9〕の人にてシメヲン・トロヘイ・ジュイジュヨ〔#10〕に面会した時に、詳しく

*(Continued from previous page)* ...separated by approximately ten *ri* of sea, there is a country called Santan [#1]. Its indigenous inhabitants are not Ezo people. From there, the land is continuous with Manchuria [#2], and consequently it is also connected by land to Beijing in China [#3].
Kunashiri Island [#4] and Etorofu Island [#5] resemble the shape of the character "人" (*hito*, "person") written in regular script (*kaisho*). The stroke "丿" corresponds to Etorofu Island, and the stroke "乀" resembles Kunashiri Island. From here northward to Kamchatka [#7], where the *Akabito* (Russians) [#6] reside, the islands continue in a chain through the sea, arranged like horseshoes.
To the north of Kamchatka, there is a foreign land called Chōkichi [#8], which is subject to the *Akabito*. From Kamchatka westward to the land of the *Akabito*'s royal capital, it is all continuous territory. Although it is land I have not yet visited myself, this information comes from detailed inquiries I made when I met in person with a Russian [#9] man named Simeon Trофей Zuizuyo [#10].
