〇「ヘド」は「オワヘ」島の港である。島の大きさは思うに四、五十里はあるだろう。滞在客はただ四日間停留してその詳細を得た。しかしながら荒涼とした様子は推察できる。港は東北に面し、背後には峻険な重なった山を負っている。その窪んだ凹地には疎らに小樹が生えている。一つの峰で火を噴いている。洋船はこの火山を遠くから望んで港への目印とする。その最高峰「サンイチ」諸島で客が観察したものに勝っている。登攀すれば一里余りであろう。港口の幅は二十丁余り、両辺は巨岩が群がって水面に五、六尺出ている。港内は平らな砂地で、砂土が積み重なった所は岸の高さが三、四尺で、帯のようにくねって港を横切っている。蘇芳や甘蔗があらゆる所に繁茂して林をなしている。上級の家は林の後ろにある。砂の上には島民の集落や広い商館などがある。椰子の木が群生している。水辺では「ケノ」艇を繫いで砂に列をなしている。これはその流失を防ぐためである。港の左辺も小さな湾で「ケノ」を停泊させることができる。

〇"Hedo" is the port of "Owahe" Island. The size of the island is, I believe, about forty to fifty ri. The visiting guests stayed only four days and obtained these details. However, the desolate appearance can be surmised. The port faces northeast, with steep overlapping mountains at its back. In the hollow depressions, small trees grow sparsely. One peak spouts fire. Ocean vessels sight this volcano from afar and use it as a landmark for the port. Its highest peak surpasses what guests observed in the "San'ichi" islands. If one were to climb it, it would be about one ri or more. The width of the port entrance is more than twenty chō, with giant rocks clustering on both sides, protruding five to six shaku above the water surface. The interior of the port consists of flat sandy ground, and where sand and soil have accumulated, the shore height is three to four shaku, winding like a belt across the port. Sappanwood and sugarcane flourish everywhere, forming forests. The houses of the upper class are located behind the forests. On the sand are the islanders' settlements, spacious trading houses, and other buildings. Coconut trees grow in clusters. At the water's edge, "keno" boats are moored in rows on the sand. This is to prevent them from being washed away. The left side of the port is also a small bay where "keno" boats can be anchored.
