○「ワイロコ」港は「ラハイナロナ」の山の後ろにあって北向きである。
山の勢いが港を覆い、登れば半里余りあろう。北向きのため
に林が鬱蒼として谷間が多く、清流が激しく流れて気候は涼しく冷たい。
あの地の正月頃には盤や盂の水面に薄氷を張る。これは「サ
ンドイッチ」諸島では全くない珍しいことである。港は山岳が南を遮って
冬の時は向かい風で涼しいけれども、夏の間は風通しが悪くかえって
「ラハイナロナ」より暑さを感じる。港口には二里余りの幅
があって三本マストの大船を泊めることができる。両側は険しい岩が多い。砂浜
には椰子が多い。広東商人「ジョン」の店は真ん中にある。アメリカ
宣教の寺院は西隅の海浜にある。また港の東に小さな湾があり
「ワイホホ」と名付ける。奥行き三、四丁ほどで小舟を停泊させるべきである。
また土人の集落がある。その客が南港に往来する水陸両方の
道程は矢印を以って始点と終点を示す。

○ "Wairoko" Port is located behind the mountains of "Lahaina" and faces north.
The mountain formation covers the port, and climbing up would be about half a ri. Because it faces north,
the forest is dense and lush with many valleys, clear streams flow rapidly, and the climate is cool and cold.
During their January, thin ice forms on the surface of basins and bowls. This is
an extraordinary phenomenon completely absent in the "Sandwich" Islands. The port is blocked to the south by mountains, so
in winter it is cool with the facing wind, but in summer the air circulation is poor and it actually
feels hotter than "Lahaina." The port entrance has a width of over two ri
and can accommodate large three-masted ships. Both sides have many steep rocks. On the sandy shore
there are many coconut palms. The Cantonese merchant "John's" shop is located in the center. The American
missionary temple is located at the western corner by the seashore. There is also a small bay to the east of the port
called "Waihoho." It extends about three to four chō inland and should be suitable for mooring small boats.
There is also a settlement of natives. The water and land routes
by which visitors travel to and from the southern port are indicated with arrows showing the beginning and end points.
