○「ワホイ」または「オワホ」と呼ばれるのは島名であって、府名とする。北緯二十一度余り。港口は東向きで、背後に平坦な盤山を負っている。登っていけば半里余りであろう。短小な檀樹（カタギ）が茂生している。
両峡の尖端はともに岩石が積み重なっており、左岩の長さは二百余間、右岩は低くて百五十余間ある。両岩は相距たること二丁余り。港腹の幅は三丁余りとする。水は浅く、軍艦（「マン・オブ・ウォー」）のような重大なものは港を去ること半里余りの沖合に錨泊して港には入らない。長さ三十余間の捕鯨船は泊まることができる。彼らの八九月の交わりには捕鯨船が輻輳して桅と帆柱が林立し、およそ七八十隻に達する。
府城は東向きで幅数十間、南北百余間。城門は西向きに開いている。

○What is called "Wahoi" or "Owaho" is the island name, and serves as the prefecture name. At north latitude 21+ degrees. The harbor entrance faces east, with flat mountains behind it. If one climbs up, it would be about half a ri. Short sandalwood trees (katagi) grow abundantly there.
The tips of both gorges are covered with piled rocks. The left rock extends over 200 ken in length, while the right rock is lower at over 150 ken. The two rocks are separated by over 2 chō. The width of the harbor's interior is over 3 chō. The water is shallow, so heavy vessels like warships ("man-of-war") anchor about half a ri offshore and do not enter the harbor. Whaling ships of over 30 ken in length can dock there. During their August-September season, whaling ships crowd together with masts standing like a forest, reaching approximately 70-80 vessels.
The prefectural castle faces east, spanning several tens of ken in width and over 100 ken north to south. The castle gate opens facing west.
