官人の屋敷に乱入したり、あるいは山に入って猪や鹿を狩ったりした。十一月、初めて賀茂臨時祭を行った。天皇がまだ侍従であった時、即位されるべき旨をこの神に予め告げられたゆえである。同月、基経に腰輿に乗って宮中に出入することを許し、源融には輦に乗ることを許された。
二年正月十五日、七種の粥を献上することを恒例と定められた。十一月、基経が病気になり、天皇が行幸されて慰労された。三井寺の智証が来て加持を行った。

He would break into the residences of court officials, or enter the mountains to hunt wild boar and deer. In the eleventh month, the Kamo Special Festival was performed for the first time. This was because when the Emperor was still a chamberlain, the matter of his future enthronement had been reported in advance to this deity. In the same month, Mototsune was permitted to ride in a palanquin when entering and leaving the imperial palace, and Minamoto no Tōru was permitted to ride in an imperial carriage.
In the second year, on the fifteenth day of the first month, it was established as a regular practice to present seven-herb rice porridge. In the eleventh month, Mototsune fell ill, and the Emperor made an imperial visit to comfort him. Chishō from Miidera came and performed ritual prayers.
In the third year, on the thirteenth day of the first month, Chancellor and Grand Minister Fujiwara no Mototsune died at the age of fifty-six. He was posthumously granted the rank of Senior First Rank, enfeoffed as Duke of Echizen, and given the posthumous name Shōsen-kō.
