二十二年、旱魃があった。
延長元年三月、皇太子保明が薨去された。文彦太子と諡された。菅原道真丞相の怨霊によるものと言われたことにより、その官位が復された。
二年正月、忠平を左大臣に転じて、大納言藤原定方を右大臣とした。定方は定国の弟である。同月、天皇の四十の賀が行われた。
三年六月、天皇が疱瘡に罹られた。
四年十二月、法皇の六十の賀算をお祝い申し上げた。
五年十一月、左大臣忠平が延喜式五十巻を撰んで奉った。格式は嵯峨天皇の御代に初めて撰され、清和天皇の御代に増減があり、この御代に完全に整備された。六十六箇国の風土記も元明天皇の御代より撰ばれたとはいえ、代々校正され、この御代に成就した。

In the twenty-second year, there was a drought.
In the first year of Enchō (延長), third month, Crown Prince Yasuakira passed away. He was posthumously named Prince Fumihiko. As it was said to be caused by the vengeful spirit of Minister-Chancellor Sugawara no Michizane, his offices and ranks were posthumously restored.
In the second year, first month, Tadahira was transferred to the position of Minister of the Left, and Major Counselor Fujiwara no Sadakata was appointed Minister of the Right. Sadakata was the younger brother of Sadakuni. In the same month, a celebration was held for the Emperor's fortieth birthday.
In the third year, sixth month, the Emperor contracted smallpox.
In the fourth year, twelfth month, a celebration was held in honor of the Retired Emperor's sixtieth birthday.
In the fifth year, eleventh month, Minister of the Left Tadahira compiled and presented the fifty volumes of the Engishiki. The codes and regulations (kyakushiki) had first been compiled during the reign of Emperor Saga, revised during the reign of Emperor Seiwa, and were completed in full during this reign. The Fudoki (records of local culture and geography) of the sixty-six provinces, though they had begun to be compiled since the reign of Empress Genmei, were corrected through successive reigns and brought to completion during this reign.
