〔承平二年十一月の続き〕諸社に納められた。
三年正月、洛中に群盗が起こる。二月、大納言藤原仲平が右大臣となる。忠平の兄である。十二月、殿上人十余名が大原野に鷹狩りをする。その装束は美を尽くしていた。
四年、山陽・南海に海賊が起こる。官兵に命じてこれを捕らえさせた。
五年、唐の呉越の人、蔣承勲が来て羊を献上する。
六年三月、飛香舎にて小弓の結番があった。六月、南海の海賊の首謀者・藤原純友が、その徒党を集め、伊予国日振島に二千余艘の船を集め、海上往来の官物を奪い取った。これにより、紀淑人を伊予守として派遣された。淑人が仁愛をもって〔海賊たちを〕なだめたところ、海賊はしばらく静まった。七月、呉越の蔣承勲が大宰府に来た。八月、忠平が書状を大唐の呉越王に遣わした〔以下次頁へ続く〕。

In the third year, first month, bands of robbers arose in the capital. In the second month, the Major Counselor (Dainagon) Fujiwara no Nakahira became Minister of the Right. He was the elder brother of Tadahira. In the twelfth month, more than ten courtiers (tenjōbito) went falconing at Ōharano; their attire was of consummate elegance.
In the fourth year, pirates arose in the Sanyō and Nankai regions. Government troops were ordered to apprehend them.
In the fifth year, a man named Jiang Chengxun (Shō Jōkun) from Wuyue in Tang China came and presented sheep as tribute.
In the sixth year, third month, a small-bow archery gathering (koyumi no keppan) was held at Hikōsha. In the sixth month, Fujiwara no Sumitomo, the ringleader of pirates in the Nankai region, assembled his followers and gathered more than two thousand ships at Hiburi Island in Iyo Province, plundering government goods passing along the sea routes. In response, Ki no Yoshihito was dispatched as Governor of Iyo. Yoshihito pacified the pirates through benevolence and compassion, and the pirates quieted down for a time. In the seventh month, Jiang Chengxun of Wuyue arrived at Dazaifu. In the eighth month, Tadahira sent a letter to the King of Wuyue in Tang China... [continued on next page]
