十一月、道長が病気になった。上東門院も中宮も、様々な祈念を行った。二十六日、法成寺へ行幸があり、道長の病気を見舞われた。十二月一日、道長が薨去した。享年六十二歳。三代にわたって摂政・関白として、天下を統治すること三十余年。一条院、三条院、当今（後一条院）、東宮（後朱雀親王）は、皆その婿である。男子は皆摂関大臣や卿相となった。摂家の繁栄はここに極まった。赤染衛門が作った物語四十巻は、大部分が道長の栄華のことを記している。同月四日、大納言藤原行成が卒去した。享年五十六歳。能書家で、世尊寺家の祖であり、代々能書を輩出した。

In the eleventh month, Michinaga fell ill. Both Jōtōmon-in and the Empress performed various prayers for his recovery. On the twenty-sixth day, there was an imperial visit to Hōjōji Temple to inquire after Michinaga's illness. On the first day of the twelfth month, Michinaga died at the age of sixty-two. For three generations, he served as regent and chancellor, governing the realm for over thirty years. Emperor Ichijō, Emperor Sanjō, the current emperor (Go-Ichijō), and the Crown Prince (Prince Go-Suzaku) were all his sons-in-law. His sons all became regent chancellors, great ministers, or court nobles. The prosperity of the regent family reached its peak here. The forty-volume tale written by Akazome Emon largely records the splendor of Michinaga's glory. On the fourth day of the same month, Major Counselor Fujiwara no Kōzei died at the age of fifty-six. He was a master calligrapher and the founder of the Sesonji family, which produced skilled calligraphers for generations.
In the first year of Chōgen era, fourth month, Higo Governor Takashina no Nariakira, Fujiwara no Tokitō, Taira no Tameyuki, and others attempted to engage in private warfare. Their crimes were determined. In the sixth month, former Kazusa Assistant Governor Taira no Tadatsune raised a rebellion in Shimōsa Province. Right Minister Sanesuke supervised the response.
