On the eighteenth day of the first month of the second year, the emperor passed away at age thirty-seven. Though he was born intelligent, all governmental affairs were handled by Yorimichi, so things did not go according to his wishes. The era names were Chōreki for three years, Chōkyū for four years, and Kantoku for two years, totaling nine years of reign.
